How to use Windows Function Keys
In general we overlooked or skip using the function keys top of our keyboard. Using these function keys we can quickly access specific Windows function or utility. Here I’m going to discuss basic use of F1 to F12 function keys.
F1 – The F1 keys give us quick access to the help topic associated with the currently active application. In case there is no active application then Windows help will open.
F2 – It lets you to rename any selected file or folder. Remember, this F2 key will work only when any file or folder is highlighted or selected.
F3 – With the F3 key you can open the Windows file/ folder search.
F4 – It moves the cursor to Internet Explorer address bar. Also with Alt+F4 you can terminate the currently active application.
F5 – Refreshes the desktop, some applications and currently viewed page in Internet Explorer.
F6 – It lets you to move the cursor within the current application.
F8 – The F8 key helps to enter in to the Safe Mode while the booting starts. In general this key has no such use while Windows is running.
F10 – It lets you to activate the Menu bar on the active application. After pressing the F10 you can use arrow keys to navigate between menu items.
F11 – It lets to change the mode of Internet Explorer to full screen.
F7, F9, and F12 – This 3 keys are reserved keys and do not have any particular functionality unless specified by any application.
