Common Methods of Skin Tightening
There are various ways patients suffering from loose skin can have their skin tightened. This can be grouped under surgical skin tightening methods or non surgical skin tightening methods.
There are various ways patients suffering from loose skin can have their skin tightened. This can be grouped under surgical skin tightening methods or non surgical skin tightening methods.
Surgical tightening methods involve having plastic or cosmetic surgery such as face lifts which is surgery on the lower face and neck to remove the flabby excess skin and tighten it and its underlying tissues in order to make one look more youthful and Blepharoplasty which is surgery done on the eyelids whereby flabby excessive tissues on the lids are eliminated by complete removal or by repositioning them, and the surrounding tendons and muscles around the eyelids are toughened, and tummy tucks which is a tummy skin tightening surgery done to remove the excess tissue, fat and skin in the middle and lower abdomen.
However, with new technology, skin tightening methods have evolved from surgical to non surgical. Non surgical tightening methods involve heating the collagen proteins and elastin fibers under the dermis using radiofrequency, infra-red or ultra sound energies so as to shrink them. There are various types of non surgical tightening procedures.
Firstly, there is the laser skin tightening procedure which is the most popular non surgical skin tightening treatment. There are various techniques used in laser skin tightening procedure. These are the titan laser skin tightening whereby the collagen proteins and elastin fibers beneath the dermis are heated while at the same time the outer layers of the skin are cooled. Then there is the laser liposuction method which is a fairly new technology that entails placing the slimlipo laser fiber beneath the skin to administer laser beams to the elastin fibers, hence dissolving the excess fat in the area. Fraxel Laser involves the application of anesthesia to the area of treatment and then using laser beams to heat the collagen for 3-4 sessions. Thermage involves tightening the skin around the face by use of thermacool technology uses radio frequency energy to warm the skin thus releasing collagen to the epidermis tightening the area after 4 months. Sculptra involves injecting dermal fillers to the area thereby increasing the volume of the areas where there is loose skin and thereby tightening them.
Secondly, there is the radio frequency skin tightening process, which is only used on early signs of aging. Here, electrodes are used to feed alternating electrical currents so that they can generate electro-magnetic waves which then heat the tissues deep into the dermis of the target area, causing the collagen to contract. After this, cryogenics are used to rejuvenate the dermis layers of the skin by use of extremely cold substances so as to protect the epidermis. Types of radiofrequency skin tightening procedures include mono polar which entails use of devices having a single electrode to administer electric current, bipolar which uses two electrode one for start and second for completion and tri polar which uses the above two devices to administer current flow.
Thirdly, there are the artificial ways to tighten the skin. This includes the use of creams that remove wrinkles and sagging skin. These products contain ingredients in them that help in skin tightening. Ingredients such as CoQ10, H-EQ10 and Phytessence Wakame are some of the ingredients that have been said to achieve effective skin tightening. However, using these products needs patience as one can take months before seeing effective results. Moreover, they can have serious side effects that may damage the skin.
Lastly, there are natural ways to achieve skin tightening. Achieving tight skin naturally entails eating a healthy diet and having plenty of water which helps keep the skin younger. One should consult dieticians who will advice on what type of foods to be taken to ensure skin elasticity. Then there are some exercises that can be done to ensure that some parts of the body attain elasticity the natural way.
